Aloha Ranch began as a rag tag team of volunteers handing out food and water to families in need on the west side of Maui in 2019. During the pandemic, the team at Aloha Ranch continued to work tirelessly to bring aid to our local Lahaina homeless populations, at that time serving roughly 250 people. We were providing our friends with food, clothing, tarps, water and also wrap around services like helping to get identification, jobs, referrals for rehab, psychological and medical care, etc. We have often worked alongside Maui Rescue Mission to provide mobile showers and laundry services.
Since the devastating fires of August 8, 2023, our community is in more need than ever.
Our mission has expanded to help the 1000s of people who lost their homes that horrible day, many of whom have lost much more. One year after the Lahaina fires, up to 1,500 of our displaced ohana are finally getting to move into a tiny home village, which is “a place of peaceful recovery”. Most of these families have spent this last year bouncing around from hotel room to hotel room, which is why we’re calling this campaign, “Hotels to Hales”.
Our “Hotels to Hales” campaign will bring our survivor families the basic needs to begin their new lives with dignity in a warm and welcoming community. These needs include basic household needs, like linens, dishes and cleaning supplies, but also other community needs like path lighting, BBQs, picnic tables and shade sails, that will allow our families to spend time outside with their neighbors to talk story, cook their meals, play some cornhole, and bond over shared experiences. Our team at Aloha Ranch believes in the power of community. We strive to live pono and to serve and stand by our ohana with the warmest Aloha. One hundred percent of donations to Aloha Ranch are used to purchase household and community items for fire survivor families. Our staff are all unpaid volunteers and we take no administrative fees from donations.
